sorry I'm really busy this week because it's transfer week, lots of lessons and stuff with members! I'm helping
get the district set up. I cant really do much of a
letter this week I'm sorry! I love the new changes of the missionary rules so much, it takes a lot of stress off on me as a missionary. The super bowl party looked fun! I loved the video, glad to see everyone!

week 42
Biggity birthday!
Monday! We had another FHE in Balanacan and played uno and the last person to have cards got his face drawn on with lipstick....it was me....
Tuesday! we went to visit a member in the
hospital and check on him, as we went through the hospital all these moms asked if we could
give their newborn babies a name and a blessing. I told them it would be great but won't do
anything unless they understand the gospel more and have faith, then
got a lot more new people to teach!
Wednesday! For the district meeting we ate cake and ice cream!!!
It looks better than it tastes trust me on that. Desserts here are waaay less sweet. imagine bread with sugar.... looks cool, but didn't even finish it
Thursday! my birthday I'm 20 years old.....I love manhood! I feel the exact same.....hahah not much else.
Friday! we had exchanges in Gasan. went and taught a lot of people! There are only like maybe 40 buildings on the whole island haha, most people here live in shacks, they are made out of some weird kind of wood, this stuff called yero. or sometimes cement. It's a nice build but
not really stable. and most of the time the floors are dirt or they put some kind
of thin plastic to look like floor.
Saturday!
Was awesome! we had this hike to the Luzom Datum, or the heart of the Philippines, it is apparently the geographical center of the entire
country....or maybe i dunno hahahah but it was super fun most of the
branch came! Then they secretly brought a banner with my name on it and
sang happy birthday!
Sunday!
we had church then taught English class. one example, we asked this
girl to use the different kinds of "have" she said "I have a happy
family." then said "I have to make you suffer." and I DIED
LAUGHING!
Elder Yarro
Week 41
Monday! had another FHE they are the best here and
they bring in so many new investigators our goal is try to do one every
P-Day.
Tuesday! We tried to follow the branch to find service but the branch leaves us out in the wind so there ended up being no service so we went back to teaching.
Wednesday! had another Dm and ate at panciton again. normal day none the less. started second exchanges.
Thursday! went to boac again and taught this less active had a really good lesson with her. shes super nice and went back to church from what I heard.
Friday! went and taught a bunch of lessons in Boac.
Saturday! returned and taught a bunch more lessons invited everyone to church
Sunday! had a lot of our investigators come to church. it was crazy. We gave the talks I talked about the book of mormon and talked about how important it is.
It gets kind of real here sometimes. like the
work alone is the only thing getting me through sometimes and even then
its not enoug, Im Ok but it is a lot of stress.
I had a dream that got me down the other night. It was actually pretty funny, so I was borrowing granpa Y's truck and
drove it to a play. Then when I got back the truck I ralized the truck got stolen, so I went
with grandpa and grandma to find it. It turns out it was this GIANT driving
mansion that takes cars and re-sells them illegally. So the three of us pretended to be
party guests and snuck in, I pretended to be this snotty italian boy,
and they pretended to be my parents. To sneak in the part with the truck I
pretended to punch grandpa in the face and during the commotion
grandmas was fake crying I snuck in and took the keys and we went off with
the truck.hahaha
I just got me sad because my first thought when I woke up was...oh yea they're gone.
But I'm over it now. the work is going so well here its crazy. Love you all

OH BOY GUYS YOU WILL NOT BELIEVE HOW CRAZY THIS WEEK HAS BEEN HOLY CRAP.

wish I got a tshirt for surviving a catagory 4 typhoon on an island in the Philippines!
okay
here's some context. last Sunday around 3 am a big typhoon his (her name
is Nina shes a jerk) she has 150 mph winds. From what I heard it was so
bad the island was considered in a state of calamity. "Following
the devastation wrought by Typhoon Nina, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan
ng Marinduque has declared the entire island-province of Marinduque
under a State of Calamity. Acting on the recommendation of the
Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC), the
Sanggunian under..."
anyways it pretty much
wrecked the entire island. We finally got power for a little while yesterday and water. So all week
we literally have been building houses and being disgusting. We have
been boiling water and sweating. It's probably the best part of my
mission so far.
So Monday morning. (the night
before I stocked up on food and put all my district under one house so
we could all be safe) the 5 of us woke up at 3 am to the typhoon and it
was crazy. We kept making jokes and videos all night hahahah. we only slept like
3 hours, and during that time a giant tree fell onto our door so when
we woke up we could not go outside. so we went to the kitchen and
grabbed a bunch of kitchen knives and machetes and went to work on the
tree, it took us about 3 hours before we could get out. After that we
spent all day checking the other apartments and building houses for
people around. We tried to sleep in Boac again but no power made it hard
cause it got hot as frick
Tuesday. about the
same. We went and hauled water for one of our members to fill her
bathroom and built more roofs. They fed us boku. and it was delicious.
they finally fixed the main roads so we could go to different barangays
and check on our other apartments and luckily no damage. It was fun and
lucky the zone leader has a car which made everything so much easier, also we
went with the district leader to different areas to assess damage of
members. saw some pretty devastating stuff.(no sleep so hot)
Wednesday.
hung out at the church with some of the members as we all used the gas
generator to charge our phone and stuff. (I used a members laptop to
email my family to tell them that I'm alive) then after I packed up and left for San Pablo
because I got called to become a trainer. (luckily the ferry's were up
and running) went and slept in San Pablo (no sleep also)
Thursday.
I went and picked up my new trainee his name is elder Mismash and he is
from Utah! we hung out in Lucena mall and I ate my first real meal of
the week. Mcdonalds!!! (surviving off of ramen and water before that) then I
taught him how to like.....go to the bathroom. aaahhh the reward of
being a parent. slept in Lucena ( still no sleep cause not enough beds.)
Friday.
We finally got back to the island but waited at the port for 2 hours.
then we had a brutal 4 hour boat ride to the island. I finally I went
back to Boac to pick up my laundry. then tried to skype my family because I heard that Boac was getting reports of power in the center of town. that was a
failure it was shutting off like 5 times.
Saturday.
Finally got to call instead of skype because there were no good cameras
ahahaha then we got power in Mogpog. I finally got to sleep the night
before new years. I slept from 7pm to 6:45Am got a very fantastic 11
hours of sleep.
anyways
this week has been absolutely crazy. I have seen some awful heart
wrenching things some very bad things happen to good people and this
beautiful island got hurt. But being a part of the thing to help make it
better and help these people has been one of the best moments of my
life. I love this church and these people.

Typhoon #2
Dear Philippines San Pablo Mission Family,
I am writing to inform you that have a Tropical Storm (Nock-ten) approaching our mission and by the time it reaches us, it is projected to be a Category 2 or Category 3 Typhoon (Nina). We have been observing this storm for a couple of days and are making preparations for its arrival. The main track of the storm is just north of our mission. We should experience high winds and heavy rains. We anticipate that we will start feeling the initial impact of the storm Christmas morning and it should clear our mission by Tuesday night. I have asked our missionaries to use wisdom and to stay in their apartments and not be out during the worst of the storm. All our missionaries are in safe, secure locations and prepared for the impact of the storm.

All our missionaries are in safe, secure locations and prepared for the impact of the storm.
They have been instructed to keep their cell phones charged. We have a
calling tree in place for rapid communication across the mission. We are
fortunate to have Senior Couple Missionaries in each of our mission
zones who will also be watching over your sons, daughters, and loved
ones.
If the storm compromises our electrical or Internet infrastructure, your scheduled Christmas calls may be impacted. If so, you will be able to reschedule them to another time once services are restored. Also, you may receive your email late next week from your missionary. Be assured, I will be constantly monitoring the situation, and my first concern will always be the safety of the missionaries. We love each of them!
Join us as we pray for any in the Philippines who may be impacted by this typhoon. We pray for their safety and protection. If there are any further developments that would impact our missionaries, I will let you know.
Regards,
President Mangum
Philippines San Pablo Mission
I am happy to report that Typhoon Nina has cleared our mission as of this evening and all of our missionaries are safe and well. The overall impact to our mission was moderate with localized heavy rain which created some flooding in lower areas and moderate winds. Our two islands, Marinduque and Mindoro, were the hardest hit areas in our mission. Many of our members’ homes suffered damage to their roofs and a few homes were total losses. The Filipino People are amazingly resilient and the cleanup and rebuilding efforts are already underway.
If your missionary was not able to call or Skype due to loss of internet or power, they will be allowed to reschedule with you. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me

Week 36
Okay so I have a lot to catch up on so I'm gonna do this real quick because we are actually EXTREMELY busy this week out here.
Monday.
We had a zone p-day, went to this swimming hole and had an airsoft war
it was fun to get to know the zone more. too bad that wont be happening
again (ill let you know more later)
Tuesday. we didn't do much just went out and taught lessons and cleaned the apartment.
Wednesday.
We had our Zone training meeting, I gave a talk about personal
study in the scriptures. I mainly talked about that everyone should have some
kind of system to help their brain focus when they are studying instead
of just reading. I feel really strong about this and that is why I'll
never just have electronic scriptures when I'm home. GOOOOO PAPER! Then we all went to Boac to film this little video for zone conf, we
did some OYMing in the bayan because fiesta was going on and there were
a lot of people walking around. It was super fun!
Thursday.
I made some good chicken adobo for lunch (I'm really good at cooking it now) so
glad I learned it, it will probably save me in college lol. then we
worked with this member and visited our members and let them know about
the primary program this Sunday and that we have a practice this Saturday.
Friday. we had exchanges with the
Zone leaders, I was with elder Snyder. He was a nice guy from Jordan
Utah. he's been out awhile so he's really fun to work with. also my watch
broke at 1:25 so all day I thought it was like 1:30. Then when I found
out it was like 5 pm. I was so happy that I felt like I skipped like 4
hours haha
Saturday. We cleaned our apartment
again, its really hard cause we still don't have water until night time.
then we just went to all our RCLA and investigators and invited
them to church.
Sunday. we had our primary program
and it was awesome! as always I love watching it. same here as back home,
lovely and hilarious at the same time.

Week 35
Monday. We went to Boac and fished with them.
Tuesday.
we went out and had a normal day of work and lessons. We have one
progressing investigator, she's really cool and wants to get baptized all
the time.
Wednesday. we had our
normal district meeting, and then I had an exchange with elder Striusmka. he's a super cool California born American.I'ts so nice to
talk and hang out with an American every now and then. it's hard to
explain, just something different about it.
Thursday.
at the end of the exchange we had elder Genterone from Cebu cook some
spaghetti for us. he is an UNREAL cook. after that we went back home and
went to teach and preach like missionaries do.
Friday.
we prepared for this baptism, it's a member's kid, they asked us to
prepare the service and my comp to baptize him. so we went and typed up
the service and then invited members.
Saturday.
we had the baptism it was great and spiritual as always. I gave a
workshop about enduring to the end. it was good, just the usual how
enduring to the end is awesome and can be hard too but because we were baptized and
have the gift of the holy ghost we can make it easier. then MARIBEL
came. shes our best progressing investigator. so after we taught her,
and we asked her how she felt about the baptism and she said it was
beautiful and she wants that and started crying it was awesome! I love
being a missionary.

Week 33
"time flies when you are having fun, or secretly sad cause you are
11,000 kilometers from home and work hard anyways." - Elder Striuskma
Wednesday. we had District Meeting, then we went to the palengki and I bought these awesome airsoft guns, one is this big sniper with a laser sight and the other is a blue AK47. this kid next door came and played with our guns and we asked if we could come and teach him and his family and he did not want us to.
really funny kid and a little depressing but oh well.
Monday.
For this last P-day we mainly just cleaned and went out to work. I know
this is small but like......i don't know what else to say, describe
scraping food off of plates in the sink isn't really worth remember 5
years from now.
Tuesday. big day! like most we
went and worked and got around 20 oyms and lots of lessons! We have this
one girl who is good friends with a member so shes been taking the
lessons beautifully and wants to get baptized.

Thursday. THIS WAS AN
AWESOME DAY! we got this member in another elder's area to let us work
with him on his rice FARM! yes that's right I picked and plucked and
planted rice. it was soooooooooooooo awesome. I didn't wear shoes and we
just got walk out in the rice field and planted and worked. it was so
freaking awesome! my comp has the pics so ill try to steal them from him
Friday.
We had two lessons they weren't anything special. just visited some
members and asked for a referral. but her daughter is like this really
beautiful pageant winner so I asked if I could pose with her crown and to tease her later hahaha.
Saturday.
We had Disctict conference. it was a lot of fun I got to see the mission
pres and his wife and catch up with them in the morning. then later
that night I had 5 more interviews. I always get scared for these.
because I take them very seriously. but I got through it and I felt the
spirit and really helped them understand they were ready and be more
excited for it.
Sunday.
We had district conference. Then all the zone came to our house and we
cooked for them. we all celebrated and told stories. it was a good day.
sorry no pics this week. the computer is being weird.

Week 32
Monday. P-day we had a good day and got a lot done, then went out and worked.
Tuesday. We had 8 lessons and 20 oyms. It was really fun, we got
this missionary in the branch to join us and it was a good day. We had a
lesson with a less active sister and she was crying because she wanted
to go to church but was afraid the branch would judge her. so I commited
her to pray if god wants her go to or not. it was a good lesson. This last Sunday she came and she was so
happy. She said God told her to go! that was dope!
I have noticed that the people here over react a lot, like
one guy left the church because he didn't get passed the sacrament. so I said "so you left he perfect gospel and our lord Jesus Christ because a 12 year
old didn't give you the sacrament? do you think he hates your or what?
I think its just that the education here isn't so great. and also because they
like media from American dating movies too. like showing weak immature
people in a cooky relationship doing funny things. I dunno to be
honest.
Wednesday.
I had my very first district meeting as a DL and it was a little scary
but the lord was with me and I think I did a good job. so that's good.
then we played a round of munchkin!
Thursday.
during lunch we went to Boac and ate horse at this local diner, it is
actually freaking good. I will definitely eat some more. Then we
went and worked hard!! We also bought some penny boards and we all went
skating and now we skate to our appointments. lol woo!
Friday.
we went to this skydeck on our way to our area and I got to the see
half of the island I have some BOMB pics of it, Ill put them in another
email. we found another new investigator and she is so nice haha really
promising. then we finished the day with more oyming!
Saturday. We went to this area by the port with all the ships and it was fun to
oym some people there. Then I had a baptismal interview with an
investigator with some elders in my disctrict. I was super nervous cause
this interview determines whether the investigator is ready for baptism
or not, but it went well. and I passed her because I felt she was ready
to make those commitments with god. The interview was amazing. hahah one of my fav things to do as a DL The interview took a while and all
the jeeps to our area stopped and we didn't have money to travel back so
we slept in Boac with my other elders it was awful we all shared beds
and I didn't get a blanket or pillow hahaha #missionlife
Sunday
we went to church and I helped pass the sacrament then we taught youth
class, I LOVE THE YOUTH HERE THEY ARE SO FUNNY AND
SPIRITUAL! then we took a quick nap at the apartment and went
out to work the rest of the day.
so all in all its suuuuuuuuper dope here on the island. We have to do a vacation on this island holy balls. amazing white sand beaches. soooooooo pretty. like for real.
hoooooooooooooooooooooo frick I miss snow, and cold. Everyday here the weather is the same, it feels like time doesn't move hahaha

Week 31
First of all I wanna say I love it here on the island, everything is
soooooooooooo beautiful and laid back! this place is so quiet and the
people are so nice and I love teaching lessons! I just love this area I
am the district leader here! Being DL means I mainly keep the district motivated to work and report numbers and go
on splits. I'ts cool. also just saw the basement so much different holy
crap. and thank you for a;; the prayers, I'm praying for you all too, I love my district so far they are all really cool.
My new companion is really cool we get along well. downsides his music taste is AWFUL he been here since February. and he's from Mindanao, which is the lower part of the Philippines, foreigners arent even allowed to go there. Lots of muslims and violence there. look up the history on Google.
We mainly eat carrots and mangos, for breakfast we have burgers with mango......and whatever a member feeds us normally gulam. which is a mix or veggies and meat
I love getting the pictures from home they dont make me homesick, they made me happy.
Love you all
Elder Yarro
Monday. We had another lazy pday in Ibaan and played some pool where I wrecked my companion.
Tuesday. spend my last day doing....you guessed it! knocking doors! woo!
Wednesday.
had our last district meeting, it was fun I got to say goodbye to all
these people I love so much. Then I worked with elder shumway, who is
new and I felt like I helped him a lot coping with the mission and stuff
he was having trouble talking to his trainer cause he was a Filipino. Then I cooked for them and we ate this huge feast with a
fellow shipper outside talking it was the most fun I've had in months.
Thursday.
was transfer day, very long day I ended up waiting for these other two
elders at a jolibees (a fast food place) for 7 hours and they never showed! but we got a
call that they skipped me and left straight for the island. so I ended
up sleeping at the zone leaders house which destroyed my back.
Friday.
first thing I did was get on the ferry and go straight to the island. I
LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS PLACE! like no joke this is the best place
ever. I don't have pictures yet because Ive been busy but I just
love it here so much. On the ferry ride I saw some flying fish they were soooooooooooooooo cool the ride is about 3 hours long
Saturday. Lots of hard
work we went and just taught a lot of lessons I miss teaching lessons man
its been waaaaaaaaaaaay too long.
Sunday
church was crazy because I gave a suprise talk (thanks dad for the backup
talk idea) and I had to bless the sacrament in Tagalog for the first
time, but I managed to do good in both of them so I'm happy. We were
supposed to have a broadcast from the area 70 and we invited the other
elders in our district but they couldn't connect so it got cancelled. so
they just chilled at our house because all travel on the island stops at 7.
hhaha its really been fun here!
My new companion is really cool we get along well. downsides his music taste is AWFUL he been here since February. and he's from Mindanao, which is the lower part of the Philippines, foreigners arent even allowed to go there. Lots of muslims and violence there. look up the history on Google.
My new apartment is freaking awesome! I'll send pics next week. We just have a stove top. and we cant get the gas to work yet... we are gonna try and work on it all today to get it fixed hahaha
this week will be dope! I'm so excited I love it here. like I would have you all come visit me and we all just hang here for a week
tell isabelle to name her drain pouch. the sac of cleanliness. or draw a face on it
I finally heard from Elder Mumm, my trainer! sounds like he is doing great, I told him to go visit you.

Week 30
Monday. I had a lot of lbms from some kind of food hahaha, also bought some emergency jeans because I ruined my slacks.
Sunday. I had my last church in this area and then we went and knocked doors again.
Family Question and Answer Time!
Questions
Tuesday.
We played some pool and did a lot more door knocking, my comp got the
training call and he's training in this area so that means that I will be
transferring. the question is where haha.
Wednesday. We had our zone training meeting, we all met up as a zone and it was really fun!
Thursday.
We went door knocking again, we found another member who got offended
and left the church. he was a super active member. you can always tell
by the way they talk about the calls. really sad to see a titan of a
saint in a state like this. When I get back I will NEVER let a saint get
to this point. I will ask all my bishops for a less active list and go
help. this gospel is too important for stuff like this to happen.
Friday. we knocked more doors (see a pattern?) and watched some basketball.
Saturday.
I went to get a freeze slushy. then I got the transfer. I didnt even ask to be transferred, it just happened! TO MARINDUQUE
whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo That's an island. Its not just an island. its so small you can walk around it in a day.
hahahaha, it'll be hard cause there will be even less stuff there than
here. but it'll be so dope to be at the beach. soak my feet. The island has a branch instead of a ward, but I dont care as long as they are enthusiastic about the work. yea I got a few emails from people back home, was nice and refreshing! Im so glad I'm done here and I might be a district leader.

Week 29
Monday. Pday we had absolutely no money whatsoever. sooooo we just waited and slept until we got the call about it coming it.
Tuesday.
was the real Halloween here. its super weird because instead of just
trick or treating they turn the cemetery into a carnival and everyone
goes and get drunk. pretty much no one was home today.
Wednsday.
we had our District meeting. I went on a split with Elder Siafitu, my
companion had leadership training in san pablo until Friday. Siafitu
is pretty cool hes new though not even done with training so I pretty
much did 100 percent of the talking it helped me boost my confidence in
my tagolog skills.
Thursday. We had a good
bunch of lessons. but mainly lots of OYMing. it was hard because our
power AND our water shut off and my companion was having some hardcore
LBMS cause he was still adjusting to the food lol it was bad I had to
hear his scream every time he went because he didn't have water to....like
do stuff. we played a lot of pool waiting for it to come back on so we
could shower, and I lost 3 games in a row. I suck at pool
Friday. We traded again and did our usual work. lots of oyming no lessons......
Saturday.
we did some more work and my companion did a nice thing for me while I
was chilling. he did my laundry for me, and shined my shoes. Kids a
champ. I love him.
Sunday.
It was fast Sunday. that's always hard, when we came back after church I learned a great lesson in procrastination, I put my laundry in the tub (absolutely HATE doing laundry here) and
got too lazy to do it because it takes me 2 hours. so I put it off
after a week. turns out the laundry soap has bleach in it that
soaked in my clothes and ruined pretty much all my pants....except one
pair. The pair I was using during the week......sooooooo I need some
pants hahaha can you send some money? im just gonna buy some black jeans
or something until I get more
there aren't any highlights from my week to tell, lol we go door to door and get shut down door to
door...... like that's my life in this area right now. I'm emailing my president
about how this place might need to have the missionaries pulled to
refocus the work in better areas, I know I'm trying my best but its hard to stay 100 obedient here because its sooo boring. lol I'm trying hard though no worries there.
I am reading a bunch of conference talks from our sr couple here. they are live savers for real.
oh gosh Im so sorry about Isabelle and her neck surgery, lol tell her I love her
Love you all

Monday. We had normal pday, and no money so we just chilled.
Tuesday.
we cooked and ate squid for the first time, it was alright. then we
went out proslyting and chilling. it was fun. found 3 new familys to
teach and went to this random ladys house who invited us in to her
birthday party and fed us.
Wednsday. we had
some members finally fellowship with us! and after I found a kitty and
took it to the apartment and fed it some powder milk and tuna then let
it sleep out of the apartment.
Thursday. I named the kitty Sylvia. then we had zone interviews! i love president and sister mangum they are the best!
Friday.
after work we had some trick or treaters come and ask for candy but we
didnt have any...so we gave them some ramen packets and jesus pamphlets!
YAAY they loved them hahaha they were all dressed up and stuff too.
Saturday.
We were trying to get the branch to come with us to meet our
investigators and invite them to come to church but they just hid from
us.
Sunday.
no investigators showed up to church.......again. but we had our sr
couple come and go to church at our branch they are great! after they
took us up to lipa and my companion got his patriarchal blessing. after
that they gave us pb&js and we got ready and worked after it was a
good day!
yea I dunno. its a little better, still feel like I have two hands tied
behind my back wit the work cause they branch isnt doing anything
I talked to my mission president and he just told me to keep praying and not give up, He's just so nice and whenever I go to the big missionary meetings it
makes me feel like I'm not alone in this ya know? like there are 150
other people struggling just as hard as me
I just found out that a man we had been teaching is gay, I had a hunch that he was experimenting (you have no idea how common that is here)
sorry no pictures right now! next week I promise!

Week 27
Monday. we played games at the stake center in lipa! still dealing with the typhoon. there was sooo much water everywhere.
Tuesday. we were on exchanges I was with elder salazar. we got punted alot so we went house to house tracting. loooooong day.
Wednsday.
the new typhoon hit and nothing really happened at all. I tried making
ramen and ended up burning my thumb and cutting my pinky.... lol some
good bowl of ramen.
Thursday.
I put shoe glue on my cut thinking it was just normal super
glue.....the biggest difference is shoe glue gets hot when in contact
with air....the pain of my burning open flesh was magnificent lol I
screamed.
Friday. we got punted more because of the typhoon so we tracted
Saturday. was a fantastic day. loooots of new families to teach. it was a good day.
Sunday.
we gathered the branch missionaries and had a "come to jesus" meeting
they talked about how it was hard to trust cause they had crappy
missionaries back then, but we fixed it and they all want to help now. So I'm excited for the work in this area now!
Its kinda boring here, I just walk around and talk to people and mostly hang out in the apartment be cause of the typhoon. We try to help as much as we can but the people here are so self conscious about their stuff they never accept service, I begged someone but its just culture here, its really hard here, oh well, I'll be fine hahaha
I cant believe Chandler is dating Justine! hahahahahahahahahahha oh my gosh I miss that kid! hahahaha
Love you all
